Explore the theme ‘I’m Just an Artist- on feminism in art and Frankenthaler’s approach’ with art historian, broadcaster, and curator Katy Hessel and exhibition curator Jane Findlay.
Jane Findlay and Katy Hessel will reflect on Helen Frankenthaler’s art practice, character and approach which made her succeed and distinguish herself in a male dominated world. The conversation will reflect on her life and key works in the Helen Frankenthaler: Radical Beauty exhibition, which you can exclusively explore across the evening, before and after the talk.
There will be a question-and-answer session with the public at the end of the conversation.
This event will start with a drinks reception at 6:30pm, a drink will be included in the price of your ticket.
Katy Hessel is an art historian, broadcaster, and curator based in London, UK. She is best known for running The Great Women Artists, an Instagram account that has celebrated women artists, daily, since October 2015. Katy also hosts the The Great Women Artists Podcast, which interviews artists, curators, writers, and general art lovers, on the female artist who means the most to them; and Dior's podcast Dior Talks – Feminist Art.
Katy has written and presented arts documentaries for BBC, and has spoken at the Oxford Union, Intelligence Squared, The National Gallery, The Courtauld, Cambridge University; collaborated with Dior, Tate, Barbican, Royal Academy of Arts; and regularly writes for British Vogue. She has also appeared on BBC Radio 3 & 4 and has curated exhibitions at Victoria Miro, Timothy Taylor, and at Tate Modern as part of a Tate Late.
Jane Findlay is Dulwich Picture Gallery’s Head of Programme and Engagement and the curator of the Helen Frankenthaler: Radical Beauty exhibition. She specialises in audience development and interpretation and believes in creating ambitious and accessible programmes for all. She has worked in UK museums and galleries for 14 years and her experience spans the British Museum, National Maritime Museum, Kenwood House and the London Transport Museum.
