Berthe Morisot: Inside Out/Outside In

Kathleen Adler, Director of Education at The National Gallery will be focusing on Morisot's portrait of her husband Eugène Manet on the Isle of Wight (1875). This talk explores the complex relationship of men in interior spaces and women in the spaces of the city. 

Manet looks out through a window, a woman and child outside regard the wider world. Morisot meanwhile is the artist in the room, depicting the range of different spaces and points of view.
