Family visits

Welcome to the Gallery - there are lots of activities to help you explore inside and outside together. We've included lots of information here to help you have a great visit. 

FREE Entry

Gallery Admission is free for children under the age of 18. This includes entry to our temporary Exhibitions, Collection and Displays.  

Family Resources

Pick up at the Gallery or downloadfree resources created for and with families. Paper and pencils are available at the Trolley at the front desk too.

Sensory Backpacks  

Developed with local families you can pick up a sensory backpacks which include sensory objects and noise cancelling headphones. There are only a small number so we advise booking one of these in advance by emailing enquiries@dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk

Family Activities

All year round there are fun family activities for all ages.  

Exploring Safely 

Our trees and some of our Garden sculptures are for looking not for climbing. Wonder and explore, but please explore safely from the ground.  

Please remind your group that touching paintings is not allowed. Sometimes very young children toddle under the barriers – keep your eyes on each other to stay safe. 

Cloakroom and pram park

Prams can be left at the owner’s risk along the walls in the glass cloister.

Toilets and baby change facilities

Public toilets, including a unisex accessible toilet with a baby changing station, are located in the corner of the glass cloister next to the Linbury Room.

Feeding and seating

Breast-feeding is allowed anywhere in the Gallery.

Folding portable stools are available, please ask a member of staff for assistance. Visitors are welcome to sit on the green upholstered benches in the Gallery. Wooden benches are situated throughout the gardens and in the exhibition space where possible.

Eating and drinking

Families are welcome to bring packed lunches. During nice weather families can picnic on the grounds. We do not have a designated lunchroom.

Best times to visit 

The Gallery is at its quietest at opening time, particularly at weekends. Lots of schools visit during the day (usually in the morning) and  tourists and families visit over half-terms and holidays. See our opening times.

Café

The Café has a children’s menu and high-chairs. Bottle warming services are also available.

Shopping

The Gallery Shop has a great selection of books and art activities for children.

Level access 

There is level access to enter the Gallery via the main entrance from College Road and to exit via the shop onto Gallery Road. All areas within the Gallery are all on one level.
