Sir William Lovelace Kt. of Woolwich
William Lovelace Kt. of Woolwich (1584-1627): son of Sir William Lovelace of Bethersden (see British School DPG367) and father of Richard Lovelace (see Dobson DPG363); knighted by James I in 1609; a member of the Virginia Company and incorporator of the second Virginia charter; he spent most of his career as a soldier in the Netherlands. William Lovelace wears a military sash and lace collar in the Dutch style of the early 1620s. DPG365 appears to be copy, perhaps of an original painted in the United Provinces.
