Meet the winner of our Friends Art Competition
Meet the Winner of our Friends 2024 Art Competition
We received many fantastic entries to our first ever Friends art competition. After much deliberation, our judges are pleased to announce a winner -Make Your Choice (2024) by Svetlana Kornilova.
This enigmatic painting portrays three people behind a sill. Are they friends, siblings, a mother and her children? Or could the central figure even be a spiritual guardian?
The table in the foreground features an array of cryptic objects. The right hand girl holds a goldfinch - a symbol often found in Renaissance paintings of Mary and Jesus, and we can also see figs, chillies, chess pieces and a set of keys.

Here's what our director Jennifer Scott had to say:
"Thank you to everyone who entered our Art Competition to mark the 70th anniversary of the Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery. The winning artwork, Make Your Choice (2024) by Svetlana Kornilova, is hanging proudly in our British portraits room until January 2025. Kornilova's captivating painting depicts a mother guiding her children as they are faced with objects ranging from chess pieces to a pomegranate, symbolising the myriad paths life may take and the decisions that determine its course."
We are pleased to announce the fantastic runners up, whose work will be reproduced on special gift cards, available in our shop.
