Renowned street-artist creates Escher-inspired mural in Herne Hill
This autumn, South East London became home to street artist Phlegm’s latest creation; a fantastical mural inspired by M. C. Escher.
Across from Brockwell Park’s main entrance you'll find an interpretation of M.C. Escher’s Bond of Union by London-based muralist and street artist, Phlegm.
This mural is part of Dulwich Outdoor Gallery, a collection of works in the Dulwich area by top street artists. All of their walls have been inspired by paintings in the Permanent Collection at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
Known for surreal street art and with murals scattered across the urban landscapes of a number of continents, Phlegm was a natural choice for this Escher-inspired project. Comparisons can easily be drawn between the British-born artist and the Dutch draughtsman, both identifiable through the use of dream-like and illustrative qualities in their artwork.
Next time you're in Herne Hill, why not snap a picture of the mural and tag it #iseeEscher
The Amazing World of M. C. Escher, runs until January 17. Find out more about the show and book tickets here.
