Knights Inspired: A Summer Arts Academy Exhibition

"Over the course of a week, we were given the opportunity to bring our ideas to life. The series of workshops were led by artist Scarlett Crawford and took inspiration from Dulwich Picture Gallery’s Winifred Knights exhibition.

The workshops consisted of analysing the exhibition and Knights’ work; looking closely at and discussing her meanings, influence and use of colour. Constructing our own compositions based upon personal experiences allowed us to explore our own ideas and identities through our individual pieces. This was done with photography and using methods such as gridding which Knights herself used.

We were also given the chance to create a podcast which made us feel empowered to verbally communicate our feelings towards Knights’ work and our own pieces, to express the processes involved in our work and interview Ian Dejardin, Sackler Director and members of the public visiting the exhibition. This provided us with an opportunity to explore different ways to be creative and how to bring our designs and ultimately the project to life."
